When we speak of “set” we’re referring to the mindset and headspace of the person taking the medicine. When we refer to the ‘setting’, it’s the environment and physical logistics of the ceremony, treatment or experience.

I learned the art of ‘set and setting’ by working with psychedelics from such a young age. I realized the times I was sloppy with my preparation, intentions, mindset and logistics, my journeys were greatly affected by such negligence. As I matured with my psychedelic usage, the focus I placed on ‘set and setting’ increased for me, in turn, amplifying the healing and transformative expression of my journey.

Set and setting is essential so consider the following:

• be mindful and intentional with where you’re at mentally, emotionally and physically,

• bring focus and awareness to your mindset going into the work

• be intentional with what you are looking to get out of the work

• prep responsibly and accordingly

• make sure you know what you are getting into before you sit

• take an honest look at why you’re doing what you’re doing
